Google

Devunity

Delivery app development takes three connected parts, not a single app: a customer app, a courier app and an admin dashboard. One backend ties them together, with live tracking and payments on top. Plan the whole order cycle first, and the screens follow.
Why Do Delivery Apps Struggle After Launch, Not Before It?
On launch day the screens look polished. The trouble starts with the first real order. The courier sees the request late, the customer cannot tell where the food is, and the manager cannot see which courier is free.
These failures rarely come from design. They come from an app built as a set of screens rather than as part of an operation. Fixing the architecture after launch also costs more than designing it well, because a change to the database or the tracking logic touches all three apps at once.
Teams usually meet the same symptoms:
- Orders reach couriers late, so food gets cold and customers cancel.
- Customers have no live map, so they call support instead.
- Managers have no single dashboard, so they stitch reports together by hand.
- Commissions are calculated outside the system, so payouts slip and disputes grow.
- The backend was never stress-tested, so it fails at peak hour.
That is why Devunity starts from the order cycle, not the screens. We map how an order moves between customer, merchant, courier and manager, then build each part to serve that path.
Delivery App Development with Three Apps That Work as One System
Devunity designs the platform around one backend and one API. Three interfaces connect to it: the customer app, the courier app and the admin dashboard. All three read the same data, so no record repeats and no screen contradicts another.
We applied this architecture in Falco, our food delivery project. Its Flutter apps and admin dashboard run on a single Laravel backend, and live tracking runs over WebSockets. Here is what each part does.
Customer App: Browse Stores, Order and Pay
Customers browse stores and menus, build an order and pay inside the app. We keep the journey short, because every extra step raises the chance that someone abandons the cart. After checkout, customers follow the order from acceptance to delivery and rate the store and the courier.
Courier App: Accept Orders, Navigate and Track Earnings
Couriers receive a request, accept or decline it, and follow the map to the store and then the customer. The app shows their earnings and delivery history, so nobody has to call the office to check a balance. A clear task means fewer handover errors.
Admin Dashboard: Dispatch, Reports and Store Management
The dashboard is the control room of your delivery operation. You manage stores, menus and couriers from it, and watch every order on a live map. Reports sit in one place, so you decide from today's numbers instead of guesses. Any change you make to a menu or a commission appears in the apps at once.
Live Tracking and Notifications: WebSockets, FCM and Google Maps
Customers see the courier's position on the map, with an estimated arrival time. WebSockets deliver each update the moment it happens, with no page reload. Firebase Cloud Messaging sends a push notification at every status change: accepted, preparing, out for delivery and delivered. Google Maps powers the maps in the apps and the dashboard.
Dispatch and Route Batching: An Algorithm That Picks the Nearest Courier
You can assign orders to couriers manually or automatically. When demand rises, a route-optimization algorithm batches several orders into one trip. The goal is simple: shorter distance per delivery and more deliveries per hour.
Payments, Commissions and Ratings for Stores and Couriers
Customers pay through an online gateway or from an in-app wallet, and Falco connects the Tap Payment gateway. The platform calculates courier earnings, store commissions and distance-based delivery fees automatically. Ratings measure the quality of stores, couriers and customers, and they feed management decisions.

What Does Each Part of a Delivery Platform Do?
A complete platform has nine components. Three are interfaces you use directly, and six are services working behind them. The table shows the role of each in a single order.

Manages stores, menus and couriers, and tracks orders and reports.
|
|
Backend and API
|
Connects the three interfaces, stores data and applies order and commission rules.
|
|
Live tracking
|

|
|
Notifications
|
Sends an instant alert at every status change through FCM.
|
|
Maps and routing
|

|
|
Payments and wallet
|
Collects payment online and calculates commissions and courier earnings.
|
|
Ratings and reporting
|
Scores stores and couriers and shows performance to management.
|
A single order moves through them in sequence. The customer submits it, the dashboard receives it, it assigns a courier who accepts it, and the map and notifications keep everyone informed until delivery and payment.
You manage restaurants from the same dashboard. If your project needs a separate restaurant app, we add one, depending on the size of the project and what you want.
In-House Couriers or Third-Party Delivery Integration?
Leading firms in this field use one of two models, or a mix of both: couriers on your own team, or orders routed to a delivery company through an API. The first gives full control over service quality. The second lowers the burden of hiring.
Falco supports your own couriers directly, with manual or automatic assignment. During discovery we decide with you which model fits your order volume and spread.
What Does Your Business Gain from Owning the Platform?
An owned platform is not a technology expense. It is an operating asset, and it serves each leader on your team differently.
For the CEO: Live Visibility and Faster Decisions
You see orders, couriers and revenue on one screen, so you find a bottleneck before complaints arrive. You can add couriers or adjust commission rules based on today's numbers, not last month's report.
For the CTO: Laravel, an API and Integration with Your Existing Systems
The architecture rests on a Laravel backend and a single API, so your data lives in one database. The platform connects to the systems you already run, such as ERP and commerce platforms like Salla, Zid and Shopify, without rebuilding what you have. We deliver the code to your repository, so you do not depend on one vendor.
For the Restaurant or Store Owner: Your Brand, Your Commission
On aggregator platforms the platform's name comes first and its commission comes off every order. On your own platform your brand leads, and you set the commission rules that the system applies automatically. You also own your customer base, and you can build offers and loyalty on top of it.
Picture every order passing through your brand, every new customer joining your database, and every commission following your rules. That is the shift a custom platform brings: you stop renting someone else's channel and start owning one you sell from. Start with a free 15-minute review of your idea.
Which Technologies Power a Delivery Platform?

The choice between Flutter and native comes down to your priority: speed and a shared codebase, or the best possible performance on each system. We settle it with you before you commit to any budget. In both cases the backend and API stay the same, so your tracking and reports do not change.
Is a White-Label Platform Enough? When Does Custom Win?
A ready-made platform launches faster and suits a test of demand. It also brings limits: someone else's branding, recurring fees and caps on customization. The real difference shows in total cost of ownership (TCO) after a year or two, not on launch day.

Leading firms in this field follow a simple rule: test demand on a ready-made platform, then move to a custom build when fees and limits start to cut into your margin.
Can You Build a Delivery App for Free?
Free tools and templates let you try a simple idea. They limit customization, live tracking and ownership, and they rarely suit a business that your income depends on. If you want delivery app development that serves real operations, a custom platform is the better fit.
Can Live Tracking Handle Peak Hours?
Live tracking is the first thing to strain at rush hour, because location updates multiply as orders multiply. Leading firms in this field rely on five practices to protect performance:
- Separate the real-time layer from the rest of the backend, so tracking load never blocks order entry.
- Use processing queues for heavy jobs such as notifications and reports.
- Cache data that repeats, such as store menus.
- Scale cloud resources up automatically as load grows.
- Monitor continuously and alert the team before customers notice.
At Devunity, the testing and quality phase includes performance testing, a functional test report and a security checklist. We design the cloud architecture on AWS or Google Cloud around your expected order volume. We also do not promise a fixed order count before a real test at the scale of your project.
How Do You Start with the Least Risk?
Do not start with every feature. Start with a minimum viable product (MVP) that includes the three core parts and serves one area with a limited set of stores. Expand once real orders prove the model.
The first version covers order placement, tracking, payment, courier assignment and basic reports. It postpones anything that needs more data, such as recommendations and advanced promotions.
Six factors set the cost of delivery app development, not the number of screens:
- The number of interfaces: three core ones, plus a restaurant app if needed.
- Target platforms: iOS, Android or both.
- The payment gateway and collection methods.
- Integration with an ERP or an e-commerce platform.
- Languages and text direction.
- Expected order volume and cloud design.
We show no figures here, because an honest number needs a written scope. After discovery, you receive a fixed price, and the code lives in your repository.
What Are the Requirements Before You Launch a Delivery App?
The requirements are more operational and legal than technical. Prepare these items before launch day:
- Store accounts: the Apple Developer Program membership renews every year, and an organization needs a D-U-N-S number and a legal entity to enroll. Google Play Console charges a one-time registration fee, and new personal accounts may need a testing period before publishing.
- A payment gateway agreement: the business documents your payment provider asks for.
- A privacy policy and terms of use: both stores require them, and they govern location and payment data.
- Business licenses: check with the regulator in your market about delivery and food permits.
- A courier and merchant plan: who supplies couriers, how a store joins and who supports the customer.
- A support plan: a channel that resolves order problems after launch.
How Do We Build It with Devunity?
We work in five phases with defined deliverables, so you know what you receive at each step:
- Discovery and analysis: We map the order cycle, define scope and components, and lock the price.
- Planning and prototype: We design the three interfaces, the database and the architecture, and show an interactive prototype.
- Engineering: Testable releases in a staging environment, a weekly demo and the code in your repository.
- Testing and quality: A functional test report, performance testing, a security checklist and multi-device testing.
- Release and evolution: Production release, SSL, publishing to both stores, documentation handover and a support agreement.
Because Falco joined three interfaces on one backend, our experience there shortens many questions in your discovery phase.
Delivery app development is an operating decision before it is a technical one. Book a free 15-minute technical consultation, and we will review your idea, decide which components you need now and which can wait, then give you a fixed price after discovery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who owns the code and the store accounts after delivery?
Devunity delivers the code to your repository with documentation. Ask for a contract clause that registers the store accounts and servers in your company's name, so you can move the platform to any team without an outage.
How are customer data and payments protected?
Leading firms encrypt data, set permissions for each user role and leave card handling to the payment gateway. At Devunity, the testing phase includes a security checklist, and SSL goes live at release. Ask for the test results in writing.
How long does delivery app development take?
There is no single answer. Duration depends on the number of interfaces, the integrations and the feature scope. The estimate follows discovery, and after that you track progress in a weekly demo of a testable build.
Can the platform connect to my existing systems?
Yes. We build API integrations with ERP systems and platforms such as Salla, Zid and Shopify. For point-of-sale systems, leading firms connect through an API whenever the vendor offers one, and we assess that during discovery.
Does the platform support Arabic and English?
Yes. Falco supports both languages with right-to-left layout. Decide on both languages at the start, because adding a second language after the build means re-checking every screen.
Can I add features after launch?
Yes, and that is the normal path. You release a first version, then add features in later releases based on real order volume. This falls under our release and evolution phase and the support agreement.
